The Impossible Ball Wall Challenge

Here is an activity that trains motor skills and hand-eye coordination. We dare say it is going to be a challenge for the whole family and you can expect endless hours of fun and family bonding.

The idea behind this activity is simple. You find a wall that you can bounce a tennis ball off, and you catch the ball after it is bounced off the wall. Simple right?

Well, here is the twist: You have a set of pre-determined tasks that you and your kids are trying to accomplish. If you pass one task, you progress to the next task. If you fail, you start from the task you failed at, or if you are feeling especially challenged, start from the beginning.

Who’s up for a challenge?

You can plan whatever challenges you like, but we recommend a list that gets progressively difficult, but also within your child’s abilities. Here is a sample list to get you started:

1. Throw the ball up in the air and catch it before it touches the ground

2. Bounce the ball once on the ground before catching it

3. Throw the ball up in the air and clap once before catching it

4. Clap once and let it bounce on the ground once before catching it

5. Jump once before catching the ball

6. Jump once and clap before catching the ball

7. Jump once, clap once and let the ball bounce on the ground once before catching it

There are other actions you can perform such as:

• Squatting

• Sing a song while going through the actions

• Say the name of a fruit, colour, animal, etc...

• Do the actions with your non-dominant arm

What we love about this activity is that it is limited only by your creativity and it also helps to develop your child’s motor-skills and hand-eye coordination while keeping them active.
